I wish our team wasn’t 80% one gender. I’ve just come across a 2011 research paper that says subtle wording in job ads changes who applies. Eg ‘competitive atmosphere’ vs ‘motivated by goals’. We’re Empathy, talk about design for context & emotions.🙋‍♀️hw.ac.uk/services/docs/…

“Women who have their first child before 25 or after 35 eventually close the salary divide with their husbands. It’s the years in between that are most problematic.” “...similar in the United States and family-friendly Scandinavia.” NCWNZ Gender Equal NZ mobile.nytimes.com/2018/04/09/ups…

I was followed around a shop yesterday, as if I might steal. I felt offended, uncomfortable, a little angry. Can’t imagine feeling like that every time. Or worse, not feeling like that because desensitised through frequency.

Great example of a #storyboard and #PSA from @WellingtonZoo - clear, honest, cause and effect, in three simple frames. I appreciate them every visit. :)

It’s hard to be your own client. It’s easy to hold design of Empathy too tightly. Today I said: “I think that moment will feel jarring to our clients. But I don’t know. Let’s try it and find out.” Everyday messages to clients, strangely hard to self.

Loved hearing @MoniqueFiso talk about her journey and the awesome and giving @martinbosleys on RNZ Saturday Morning. Excited for the new restaurant in Mt Cook. Yum!

My linguistic laziness plays a huge role in which words and phrases I pick up. I’ll use ‘kai’ over ‘food’ because it is just as short. Even at my most proficient, I’m likely to stick to ‘fridge’. Will need to really force myself on that one. #MāoriAtHome x.com/kupumaorinz/st…

It’s good for people and teams to have agency in an org. Give the mandate to make things better, in line with your strategy, purpose, values. The downside is multiple people unknowingly doing similar things. Frustrating, but a small price to pay for great people charging ahead.
