Heads of schools have been notified of a further 21 days of deductions for the Aug/Sept assessment period. So, staff at Leeds may lose 42 days of pay despite working full time, even if only boycotting a small amount of marking. This shows a shameful lack of disregard for staff.

theguardian.com/society/2023/o… This isn't spin or hyperbole, the UK's dysfunctional, commodified housing markets, confused and ineffective planning system and sustained failure to maintain and build social housing since 1980 could only ever have one consequence.

Interesting deal. Vistry (Bovis, Linden) does £819m deal to pre-sell 2,915 homes (Ave £280k). Leaf Living (Blackstone) will take 1,522 for private rent and Sage Homes (HA) will take 1,393 for ‘affordable.’ Question is, how will private buyers on the 70 sites in question take it?

Leaving aside the dubious framing of this story ('workaday beauties' ffs), some nice local detail of am young Irish women's life in Lewisham 1959 - Mary O'Donoghue from Cork working in the Robertson Jam Factory in Catford and socialising at the Harp Club in New Cross

Why aren't social landlords building enough new homes? And struggling to maintain the ones they have? This graph explains a lot: From 2016 to 2023, general needs rents went up only 5%. Inflation was 31% over this period, so a real terms cut of 26%. assets.publishing.service.gov.uk/media/65313d33…

Neglected fact: getting more housebuilding is about more than planning reform. Here’s an important graph for understanding that: Developers have consistently under-delivered on their planning permissions for years. 🧵 on why and why it matters

This fascinating thread is highly relevant to the popular British notion, shared by the new Labour government but never proven, that private house builders want nothing more than to build as many houses as possible, as fast as possible, & only red tape stops them
