I'm coming late to this but just got to reading the full report. The findings don't surprise me at all because Sure Start Local Programmes were rooted in evidence & targeted in the poorest areas. But successive govts made two crucial errors (I was there, as a civil servant).

Great thread on the latest innovation from Public First in how we speak to the public - an immersive approach to truly speak to ‘the public’ and understand what people think, whilst they are in their own environment 👇🏻

Great to discuss mine & Ed Dorrell's recent attendance research on parental attitudes to attendance, the latest data (spoiler, it's not looking great) & recent DfE's recent announcements as part of moving the dial. Thanks MsEmilyHunt Education Policy Institute for fascinating insight.

Great article from Ed Dorrell in iNews today talking about the long shadow of Covid & what an incoming Labour government will need to tackle. Including CAMHS, a more holistic school experience for all pupils, targeted tutoring for those who are behind.

Great to see coverage of our work on public attitudes to opera in the Times today - represents just a piece of the detailed research we've been doing with the Laidlaw Opera Trust on views towards the sector. thetimes.co.uk/article/half-o…

We (mostly Tommy Gale) created a policy tracker for the election. I clearly miss my time in front of policy spreadsheets in 2019. We hope it’s useful to see quickly what parties have (and have not) chosen to talk about. Quibbles and additions welcome. docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d…

Almost exactly a week ago, the 2024 UK General Election was officially called. Here's a new post, digging into... How do (British) voters *feel* about the economy? (And what does that mean in this election?) pfdatablog.com/blog/how-do-vo…

This morning, Public First publishes what I hope will be a very valuable contribution to the debate over plans to fund a fully trained mental health counsellor in every school. 1/7

Well now. "Knowledge-rich" and "the important role of exams" This from the Labour manifesto: "Labour will launch an expert-led review of curriculum and assessment, working with school staff, parents and employers to change this. 1/

This has been a long time in the making. There’s been a lot of commentary (and ambiguity) about what GB Energy can and should do. My view, one closely shared by industry - GBE’s mission is to accelerate the deployment of clean generation, whilst making a return.

Today, Jess and I, along with our friends at University of Warwick, are publishing a detailed report looking at the highly topical question: just what does happen if a university goes bust?
