Why do the tough decisions disproportionately affect the poor? Why didn't we tax the rich cos, you know, they've never had it so good? Then we could've kept the winter fuel allowance and funded more public services

Any Government has choices. This Labour Government are choosing to keep the child benefit cap and scrap winter fuel payments. They're choosing not to tax the wealth of the super rich. But, remember, you have choices too at the next election.

We have a legal right to safe water in workplaces, homes & public spaces. Why not clean air? People still being regularly killed & disabled by breathing poisonous air. Bad for people, productivity & the economy #Covid

It's hard to think of a more basic preventative measure than reducing the transmission of pathogens, particularly in healthcare.

Make winter fuel allowance universal, so nobody can fall through the cracks. But then tax back way more than that value from those rich enough not to need it, by increasing taxes on the richest (wealth, not income tax, so work isn't taxed more than unearned income).

Labour are highly likely to introduce means-tested for Winter Fuel Payments later today, but this is an eye opening fact that I’ve not seen widely discussed. If the government’s estimates are wrong, this policy could well end up costing the government rather than saving! 👀
