Hoeryong City in North Hamgyong Province is today well known across the DPRK for its beautiful scenery and being a good place to live and raise a family in. Before this they were well known for its regional specialties, the most famous of which are Hoeryong white apricots.

Today Hoeryong white apricots account for 90% of the city's total fruit production. Apricot orchards stretch for hundreds of hectares along its hills and valleys, where scientific farming has borne great results and old trees are now regularly replaced with young ones.
