I took a leave from my Ph.D. program, and have been worried about being about being able to say, “I’m an intellectual” without possibly not having a Ph.D., and the fact that so many erudite Jameson appreciation posts are from autodidactical non-academics has been heartening.

Since society doesn't give a shit, carers are often people that are in some kinda personal relationship with you and have so much power over you. My parents are my carers. And I know a lot of people who are depending on their partners. That can go well, very wrong, 4/

or everything in between. But even when it goes well it shouldn't be that way. You are dependent on someone with whom you should have some kind of equal relationship with. Some people can't leave their partners because of that. 5/

An important disclaimer: without carers I would die. Or worse. So I'm glad and lucky that I have them. There are many people who actually need carers but don't have them and therefor are sicker than necessary and the sickest people even die because of that. 6/

Lots of carers do an incredible job in a society that isn't on their side either. They are doing this underpaid or unpaid. Society doesn't value their work. My parents gave up very big parts of their lives to take care of me. Our goverment doesn't value that at all. 7/
