Such advocacy for babies as so many of us joined together this week for #IMHAW2024. We need to move forward collectively to drive action even if the general election manifestos seem to have forgotten about babies, again….there is more to early education than increasing ‘places’.

Megan Dixon What an interesting paper, Megan. I was especially interested in the gaps in teachers' confidence & expertise around some aspects of comprehension that seem very important, as in your findings below:

We really need to balance the discourse, especially about children, as “fragile” “damaged” etc. Often they are adapting to circumstances with courage and skill There’s a small & growing research signal on “hidden talents” - strengths in adversity, e.g., cambridge.org/core/journals/…

Inspired study design demonstrating biological impact of psychological therapy with children aged 2-6 years old. I note that biological markers of trauma were easily detected in children at the start of the study. Trauma leaving its mark.

Useful paper showing that high quality friendships support mental health in children who've experienced #Trauma So much that schools, families and others can do to nurture friendships for children & young people - it's a significant intervention in itself

Here is an easy to understand summary of a study we conducted, which found key differences in the brains of people without PTSD, people with classic PTSD, and people with the dissociative subtype of PTSD. See the results here! 1/3 #PTSD #Research #Psychology #Trauma #Neuroscience

I'd like to do a blog on books TEPs have found useful to support their training/ would be helpful for AEPs, applicants or even EPs to reconnect with some basics around Educational Psychology practice. Have a few up my sleeve already but #edpsychs any recommendations I can add in?

Everyone who offers appointments & wonders why people don't come or don't take advice needs to consider this! EF is more efficient when we have smooth schemas for action & representing e.g., time. So professionals think easily in time/date formats; not everyone does

James McTaggart (@jamesedpsych) 's Twitter Profile Photo

It's often not that people are "hard to reach" or unmotivated, but that the organisational/practical demands of turning up/using advice overwhelm a capacity already stretched by the problems they want our help with in the first place We need to simplify, support & reduce shame
