The quieter north of the New Forest is a fab place to see the Forest's special plants. The grazed lawns are awash with Chamomile Chamaemelum nobile right now. There are some funky black-faced (and bottomed) sheep too. #wildflowerhour #DaisyFamily BSBI: Botanical Society of Britain & Ireland

The star #DaisyFamily member in the New Forest is Small Fleabane Pulicaria vulgaris. It's at its peak now, and can be locally very frequent on the damper parts of tight-grazed lawns and verges. #wildflowerhour BSBI: Botanical Society of Britain & Ireland

Seems like a bumper year for Pennyroyal Mentha pulegium in the New Forest, Hampshire. I found swathes of flowering plants across Cadnam Green today. #wildflowerhour BSBI: Botanical Society of Britain & Ireland

Wanted to test out my tent at long last before using it 'properly', so chose a local campsite... bus dropped me off, headed over to Calshot Creek and 'ooh, White-winged Tern!' 😄 Also Osprey, Peregrine, lots of waders & terns etc #HantsBirds BirdGuides 🚏

Just went out to look at the moth trap and there was a Convolvulous Hawk-moth feeding on the tobacco plants I planted in the slight hope of attracting one. It's great when a plan works. #moths Migrant Lepidoptera

The hornet robberfly may mimic a hornet but it is harmless to us. By mimicking a hornet it protects itself from predators, meaning it can be on a perch in the open looking for prey such as bung beetles, grasshoppers and bees. They can be seen between June and October
