People made fun of me for saying Columbia would never be the same after the encampments, but since then the president has resigned, public access to the campus has been restricted, they're trying to formally ban dissent, and this is how the fall semester is starting.

To be clear: this is Samantha, with the Dean Leslie Grinage, and President Rosenbury’s sidekick, Kelli Murray, standing by and watching. Did they ask the police to do this? They certainly didn’t try to stop them. And who asked the police to come to the gates in the first place?

tip for journalists that follow me: look into severe & punitive measures that Barnard College (part of Columbia) is taking towards students protesting for Palestine. Multiple students are suspended for fall semester. admin has taken away meal plans, violated NY housing law, etc

I’m not going to sit here and pretend that Columbia is great. But Barnard is especially cruel towards students. Evicting students & giving them 15 mins to pack. Threatening to arrest students who go on Columbia’s campus. Completely ignoring attorneys.

The impacted students are almost all women of color. many are low income. These are 18 & 19 year olds. A lot of these students don’t have family in NYC or places to go. Barnard admin is endangering vulnerable students to appease donors. While claiming to love student activists.

The survey of nearly 3,000 faculty members found that about 70% of respondents are dissatisfied w/ the political atmosphere around higher ed & about 55% of survey respondents are disappointed in their school’s admin for “not adequately defending academic freedom & tenure.”

A must read: a group of distinguished Jewish faculty at @columbia and @barnardcollege have sent a letter to the University/College leadership raising serious concerns about Columbia's "Antisemitism Task Force"'s second report. Full letter here: drive.google.com/file/d/1EDoefS…

From Barnard Amnesty: Barnard is once again suspending students, evicting them from housing, taking away health insurance, meal plans, financial aid, and counseling services. All through a flawed process where it has appointed itself prosecutor, judge and appellate court.

As a Jewish faculty member at Columbia University with serious reservations about the report just released by the "Antisemitism Task Force," I co-signed this letter written by a group of Jewish faculty members. tinyurl.com/CUJfacLetter
