The decline in American life expectancy is an issue that extends beyond health—it affects our economy too. #HealthyNYC serves as a model for other cities/states, demonstrating the importance of a holistic approach to tackle the root causes of this crisis: latimes.com/opinion/story/…
Carlos del Rio Craig Spencer MD MPH Los Angeles Times Céline Gounder, MD, ScM, FIDSA 🇺🇦 that also ultimately serves to help prevent epidemic disasters, etc. I'd love to see us shift toward this bottom-up narrative framing of public health. We should in fact see it working every day via social caregiving rather than imagining it as invisible bureaucrats at the CDC.

Today Brown University School of Public Health hosted a great discussion between our own Ashish K. Jha, MD, MPH and dedicated humanitarian Michael VanRooyen.
Really thoughtful discussion on the humanitarian crisis and public health needs in Gaza, why the catastrophe in Sudan remains overlooked, and much more.
Let's treat public health as an economic imperative, argue Drs. Craig Spencer MD MPH and Céline Gounder, MD, ScM, FIDSA 🇺🇦 in the Los Angeles Times. It's worked before. latimes.com/opinion/story/…
'We need to revive a historical source of support for public health measures: the business case for a healthy workforce,' Craig Spencer MD MPH and Céline Gounder, MD, ScM, FIDSA 🇺🇦 write. 'Public health infrastructure makes it easier for working people to lead healthy lives.'

I agree with Marty Makary MD, MPH. Hospitals that do not act like charities should not be treated as charities for tax purposes.
