Went to look for this ancient hazel tree near Carlisle today, and we found it in a beautiful valley full of old hazels rowans aspens birches hawthorns and oaks - a magical special place

Nose breathing cold air week six of #52waystowalk was fine on the level - more of a challenge uphill.

#52waystowalk week five -go for a slow walk. I found this the hardest yet. It’s cold, the dog gets impatient, I get impatient. One to work on Annabel Abbs

Week 3 of #52waystowalk by Annabel Abbs walk, greet, repeat -which I do every day, so how to make it new? Anything more than a half smile at teenagers on way to school makes you seem like a weirdo - only just about ok as I have the dog. So I’ve been greeting trees

Focussing on my gait for week two of #52waystowalk by ⁦Annabel Abbs⁩ I’ve found that lifting out of the waist, the knees, the collarbone when you walk makes space in the body, and brings extra bounce and energy. Not as much energy as this girl though

Saturday was 6 degrees so I went out in sandals. Loved the cold air circulating in my clothes. Definitely will leave the coat behind more often Annabel Abbs

Week one of #52waystowalk is walking in the cold, and as I walk the dog everyday through the year, I do this anyway, so I thought I’d make it colder by wearing no coat on the early morning walk. Monday in the frost was invigorating, I tingled all over for ages after I got in.

Last year I was lucky enough to chat to Annabel Abbs about her book #52waystowalk and I thought I might give it a try. Was planning a January start but it didn’t happen, so I’m starting this week. Week one is walking in the cold - will report back …
