Approximately 4 out of 5 cars made in Canada each year are exported to the USA. Cars travel almost exclusively by rail & a prolonged strike would have a similar effect to the 5-day 2022 Ambassador Bridge blockade which caused temporary work stoppages throughout the industry.

When vehicle assembly stops, so does parts & systems supply. Most parts travel by road but vehicle assembly operations are not designed to stockpile supplies. The just-in-time nature of the industry makes it inflexible in moments like this. We must avoid a strike at all costs.

If your industry can hold the country’s economy hostage, then your country should be smart enough to deem it essential. Binding arbitration is a must. We should now understand that neither the railways nor the union can save us from this slow moving train wreck.

We’ve worked very hard to get Ottawa and Washington to understand the Chinese EV threat. I spent a lot of time in both capitals on this since last October and have spoken publicly and privately on a daily basis about what is at stake by doing nothing.

Say what you will about the federal government, but when it comes to 🇨🇦’s auto industry, they step up. Period.

This.🙄 🇨🇦 environmentalists say ‘China EV tariffs hurt 🇨🇦 families’. Huh? What about the 1M+ 🇨🇦 families who supply, manufacture, distribute, sell & service cars here? No, they’d rather stand up for China - the world’s biggest polluter - who pays workers $2/hr for 72hr weeks.

If you’re counting, China is currently at the WTO complaining re: 1. USA re EV subsidies (March) 2. EU re EV tariffs (August) 3. Canada re EV, steel & aluminum tariffs Interestingly, China has NOT challenged identical US tariffs, which would be contextual in its 🇨🇦 complaint.
