A lot of people are shocked but the truth is this is the norm for a lot of other schools, not just Pembroke Hall. Moreover, this is the norm in more schools than it isn’t. We only focus on the 40 or so traditional high schools that do well and less on the other 120.
Here’s the thing, this issue with our education failings will not make it as a hot topic on any political campaign. Not one of the parties will touch it because in truth if ppl were more literate & not just basic read & writing they’d be talking to chairs at political meetings.
Those of us who can should consider adopting families in Jamaica and paying for the children’s education. The combination of mentoring and financial help could save people
Compounding issues here. Low wages, lack of resources, coupled w/ a shift in attitude and values, etc
We can’t talk about literacy without the social context… inequity, generational trauma, broken trust in institutions. The issue isn’t just access, it’s relevance and resonance.
