A new blog by the Biospheric Microplastics team discusses our webinar Airborne DNA: Technical, Practical, and Ethical Potentialities and Challenges with Francesco Tava & Dr Ben Williams Check it (and them) out! bit.ly/3MciyKH
It's #CleanAirDay today and here at Homes Under the Microscope we are counting airborne microfibres sampled by our #citizenscientists. Microfibres and microplastics from textiles are an important, but poorly understood, type of indoor air pollution.

A great keynote by Dr Ben 🏴 in session 1 of #PlasticsFuture2023 Fantastic to hear about the Homes Under the Microscope project and the use of citizen science in microplastic research 🔬
UWE Air Quality Excellent presentation Enda Hayes on the importance of #citizenscience effective #sciencecommunication. Co-design and co-creation of solutions with people is key. Shifting from the deficit model to a dialogue model. #AQNBRS
Over 16? We need you! Homes Under the Microscope project would like to understand attitudes and behaviours of people on their clothing. Answers will be used to shape research in airborne microplastics. 5 min survey here: uwe.eu.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_9A… Science Communication Unit, UWE Bristol
Very happy that our perspective piece on embedding citizens (acknowledging the challenge in using this term) within airborne microplastic and microfibre research has been published. Top job, Dr Laura De Vito, Margarida Sardo Kirsty Pringle Enda Hayes et al. cambridge.org/core/journals/…
Homes Under the Microscope helped to shed light on the vast quantities of airborne #microfibres of cellulosic, man-made cellulosic and synthetic origin.🏠 Congratulations to the team at UWE & UoL!👏 Kirsty Pringle Dr Ben 🏴 @LagganSophie Science Communication Unit, UWE Bristol UWE Air Quality
Five citizen science projects are working with the public to improve research and its impact in society. Really looking forward to Festival of Nature this coming weekend in Bristol. We’ll be in Millennium Square all weekend, fluorescing some #microplastic fibres and hunting for them in textiles 🧑🔬🔬 There’s some really cutting edge soil acoustics research on show from Dr Sam Bonnett too!
Fantastic two days at Festival of Nature. Absolutely heaving from morning to evening and so much eagerness for exploring microplastics under the microscope. Completely exhausted, but particularly worth it to see enthusiasm for science across all generations 🙌 Time to lie down now 😴
Join us in September on a free lunchtime online seminar, we will discuss citizen involvement in research Science Communication Unit, UWE Bristol UWE Air Quality
