If your organization runs an apprenticeship program, we are organizing an event for you to learn and share with other like organizations. It's called the Apprenticeship Summit, October 21st in Cincinnati: eventbrite.com/e/apprenticesh…

Alanna Congratulations! The one thing I wished I did sooner as a developer was to read books. I would recommend the book Apprenticeship Patterns (Apprenticeship) programmingbooks.dev/#apprenticeshi… Good luck, and always be learning

Apprenticeship Patterns / Dave Hoover, Adewale Oshineye A playbook for software engineers at the first steps of their career. It's "design patterns for your career". Bought a physical copy to put on my desk at work, to remind me that there are ways to get unstuck when needed.

We in tech tell this story of "Ugh, we have to deliver and we have no time to train up juniors" which is sometimes true but is also very changeable. Unless you can actually compete for senior talent, you NEED a path to successfully hire junior devs.

Unpopular advice for junior engineers: - Work in-person at a project-based consultancy (regardless of tech stack) - Use open source, but do not try contributing - Editor fiddling, vim, exotic terminals are a total waste of time - Anything beyond "git 101" doesn't matter

For anyone at the beginning of their journey into software development, this comprehensive post about me is a great place to start learning how to level up. The author even used a Google Sheet to map out all of my patterns and how they interconnect! andreeazone.com/2018/06/29/how…
