WOW. Knock-out stat from Bank of England Andrew Haldane at The RSA The Health Foundation "Economies for Healthier Lives" conference. 🎯 One extra year of longevity worth £60bn to UK, or £1,000pp. What a massive economic dividend! 🚀 Can't think of better ROI for 🇬🇧. #healthybritain.

When we say NHS is not responsible for health of 🇬🇧,👇 is what we mean. Housing is a critical driver of good health, & bad health. We tried to make health an objective of housing regs and failed. Until housing policy has health objectives, Brits will have poor health outcomes.

Can you spare 5 minutes to help on a research project about which occupations are most age friendly? I am after people to rank 10 occupations in terms of how suitable they are for older workers. For more detail and the survey click here: ow.ly/236750JqJWu

1/10.🧵Are we sleep-walking into major and permanent shifts in health and care need, and where is the preparation for that? Some, quick, disconnected, provocative thoughts...

Such an important report. The economic costs to the taxpayer of subsidising junk food are enormous. Our NHS is straining to cope with Britain's obesity issues, our workforce bottleneck is made worse by ill-health, and the cost to welfare stacks up every year. Time for a rethink.

Just finished my time at the BLAST ageing network summer school hosted by Oriel College University of Oxford. Prof Lynne Cox (Lynne Cox), Colin McClure & team put together a FANTASTIC program of speakers/CPD! And met SO many passionate #longevity ECRs 🤩! This is just the beginning 😜!

Blog | Gone for now or gone for good? The number of older workers has not rebounded in the same way as other groups since the pandemic. This blog highlights why this is cause for concern. buff.ly/3otC4Xy @ageing_better

Important piece by Sarah Neville. Legacy of Covid hitting healthcare systems SO hard. We should use this crisis to pivot from late-stage acute medicine to early stage preventative interventions. Policy-makers shd seize the opportunity. #healthybritain. ft.com/content/26e073…

Given the current uncertainty on whether it is or isn’t being scrapped, now is the time for Thérèse Coffey to firmly commit to publishing the long-awaited Health Disparities White Paper. theguardian.com/politics/2022/…

I support "Growth", but how can we grow the economy when people are leaving the workforce because they're ill? Good to see Office for Budget Responsibility echoing my concerns in their reply to letter about accurate accounting for the full economic costs of rises in "inactivity". 1/5 #HealthyBritain

Glad to be in the audience for this - we do poorly economically when faced with global shocks because our society's immune system is compromised - health (esp mental health) a critical component.

Excellent list of ways to improve the NHS from ⁦Shaun Lintern⁩. I’d emphasise 21c public health measures to prevent disease and mobilise all-Govt approach to health: clean air, mouldy homes, smoking cessation, obesity strategy etc. #healthybritain thetimes.co.uk/article/21c66b…
