Last trip to the Somme & Dominique (Le Tommy, Pozieres) wanted to show us a S.M.L-E. recently found on a local farm. He's made a good job of cleaning it. Its an interesting & unusual example😉

WW1LEICESTERTIGERS Tom Tulloch-Marshall I wonder if this helps..?

The tree line has similarities, and a depression in the ground? highlighted.

Looking into the grave, on the right image, it points to;

2nd Lieutenant - A W Gordon. RFC.
Died 12 August 1917
Buried: Etaples Military Cemetery, France.

It’s hard to imagine the grief felt by Eliza Spriggs, who lost two sons in under a year. Sadly, neither has a known grave. Walter is named on the Pozieres Memorial, and Alfred is named on the Arras Memorial. Both are recorded on the village war memorial.

📍Leire, Leicestershire

Purchased in a job lot at auction, I’m curious if anyone has seen one before ? It may even be a repro, I have of course heard of the ‘spitfire fund’
