Leafs clearly think he has a chance to play in the NHL and are trying to get him through waivers this year. Has a good set of tools (size, strong, moves well, decent enough with the puck), but is already 26. Low risk bet and a good story for an undrafted free agent from Harvard.

Seems like Leafs are playing some musical chairs right now so just trying to sit back and see how it plays out but barring a good return, trading a 23 year old to sign a 35 year old wouldn't make much sense to me. If someone else is moved and keep both it could make sense though.

As noted in here - Think a low risk gamble on Pacioretty in isolation is fine in and of itself, but who moves to make room for him in the lineup (and what they get in return), is really going to swing it for me. The hope is a full summer of training, not rehabbing, helps Patches.

Really like Hakanpaa as a player and the Leafs 7 dman group if he is healthy and able to play to his ability. We will see if he's actually able to stick in the lineup and do that though, and the reality is we won't know for awhile if his knee actually holds up.
