We're releasing a preview of OpenAI o1—a new series of AI models designed to spend more time thinking before they respond. These models can reason through complex tasks and solve harder problems than previous models in science, coding, and math. openai.com/index/introduc…

One very important thing to understand about the future: the economics of AI are about to change completely. We'll soon be in a world where you can turn test-time compute into competence -- for the first time in the history of software, marginal cost will become critical.

So this is like 2T in loss market cap for a $6M training run (ignoring cost of research, ablations, distilled data from GPT, capex for their various clusters, etc). Imagine if China invests $300m in a training run. It would reduce the world's GDP to $0.

Today, we at OpenAI launched Deep Researcher and I wanted to share a deeply personal story about how amazing this tool is and how it will change the world. Trigger warning, related to cancer....1/9

It was a fun (and intense) sprint working on the early versions of our codex (agent) and training the codex (mini-latest) model with Hyung Won Chung fouad Rohan Nuttall, optimized for codex (cli)! 😅

Codex CLI keeps getting better. In the long run, I expect that "local" (e.g. Codex CLI) and "remote" (e.g. Codex) coding agents will come together — imagine their combination as a remote coworker who can also look over your shoulder. Excited for the future of programming!

It is actually wild that Siri is so bad but multimodal models are getting so good at realism, intelligence and latency. The delta in capabilities will soon unlock new patterns for how we communicate with devices. Time really is ticking for Apple
