Huge decision coming out of Waterloo Region on encampments. Now is the time to invest in real options for our neighbours in tents.

This crisis exists across the province (& country). Hopeful that this decision leads to building diverse, accessible housing options that prioritize the needs of the people in tents. We can do better!

Great article from Paige Desmond - Kitchener Mayor Berry Vrbanovic calls annual funding for A Better Tent City a 'No Brainer' & Region of Waterloo staff say a second tiny home community for the homeless is on the table! HUGE progress

“Politicians are still grappling with the concept that drug users deserve to be treated like people”. People who use drugs ARE people, and deserve dignity respect and care. Beautiful article.

Thanks The OHRC for reminding our gov’t that rights and humanity don’t disappear when you can no longer afford rent. People in tents are still people!

Another way we’ve made it illegal to exist for people who are unsheltered. If you can’t afford your rent, you become a safety concern when trying to get somewhere. Lovely.

Beautiful to see how a few dozen cabins, some surplus land, and the unconditional love of a community can create something so filled with hope. Thanks to ⁦Justin Chandler (he/him)⁩ & ⁦@TheAgenda⁩ for showing what an incredible project Tiny Homes can be. tvo.org/article/a-plac…

“Khaleel is one person, he cannot warm up the whole universe” Amazing trailer for Someone Lives Here that’s premiering at Hot Docs. Please watch, please share. It’s amazing. Every day I’m honoured to do this work - until every person has the housing they need ✊

“HATS has the funding, resources, and community partners in place. They are now working to find a site” - so grateful to @shaw_sandy for this shoutout in the Legislature. The momentum is building!

In the last days before cold weather, in a crisis of unsheltered homelessness, and in an opioid epidemic… this is the priority?
