The best time to educate your institution to support under-represented faculty and students is before, not after, recruitment. Recruiting junior URM faculty hoping they will spearhead your DEI efforts is... wrong on so many levels.

I submitted my official withdrawal from my PhD program today. I intended to wait until the dust settled before trying to put words to the feelings I’m experiencing, but some things just cannot wait. I have so much to say & I’m not sure where to start. I suppose I’ll begin here—

📢 Excited and proud to share our first preprint! We discovered a novel function for the autism-associated gene SYNGAP1 at the early stages of human cortical neurogenesis. Work co-lead by the very talented Marcella Birtele postdoc and Ashley Del Dosso PhD candidate in our lab🧵 1/8

Had a convo with someone who didn't know this so here's an annual reminder. If you're a URM undergrad, grad, or postdoc in a lab with a major NIH grant (including DP1, DP2, DP4, DP5, R00, R01, R03, R15, R21, R35, etc) you can possibly apply for a diversity supplement. Why do it?

Thank you for this feature Diversity In Action and highlighting the Emory FIRST IRACDA Program program at Emory! I had an amazing research (Emory College) and teaching experience (Spelman College) while in the program. My lab at USC Dornsife College of Letters, Arts & Sciences is doing some pretty amazing work - RNA and Neuro 🪰🧠!
