As much as I love planetary science, I'm not from a chosen school, don't have connections necessary to survive in academia

And yes, I was told that my PhD school, despite my pub record, negatively impacts my chances to get anything NASA related

So I'm using this last year of funding to figure out how to transition. Advice welcome

Well 1.5 mos into new postdoc & still not enrolled in benefits, which means I can't go to the doctor.

But they've promised to back charge me for benefits to the date of hire, when they add me to the system

And everyone shrugs and says it's normal. It's not normal people. Normal jobs process paperwork within a quarter of knowing you have offer

The more people shrug, the more determined I am to leave ASAP
