David Hatton was one of the real Hull Truckers and a unique actor, entertainer and seeker. He arrived with us via Cartoon Archetypal Slogan Theatre, Pasolini’s film of 'The Canterbury Tales' and Hope and Keen’s Crazy Bus.

In “Oh What!” Dave played Joe - a working class trade unionist pub singer confused by Peace and Love.

In "Bridget’s House” he played Mathew, a socially challenged Behavioural Psychology lecturer confused by the Crucifixion of Bo Diddley and intimate physical relationships- His solo vocal number was “Why can’t a woman be more like a rat?”.

In "The Melody Bandbox Rhythm Roadshow" his brilliant creation comical balladeer Arnold Wedgitt - "Man of thousand faces and none of them his own,” raised many a roof with his unique interpretations of “The Joojar Tree”, ‘Istanbul’ and “I’ve never wronged an onion”.

Davidthenjoined KenCampbell for“The Warp”playing a vast range of parts including SamWedges,owner of the eponymous beatnik coffee bar,the EvilBaron and a bloke who announced that he was going to remain silent for5 minutes.

And he was - every night- to the delight and consternation of the ICA audience.

David walked to Glastonbury Tor and played the Jew's Harp. Sell them a bunch of clams, Dave. Quadruple Whiskys All Round
