Doing the new faculty orientation at York and when people heard I am from the US they either wanted to talk about our obsession with guns or our presidential election. The shooting alert I got from Georgia Tech's notification system did not help dispel these stereotypes.

The ultimate result of this is not just training AI models on archival data, its training ourselves to access archives through AI models. This is a way of justifying and legitimising them through cultural institutions
