Good morning from the #WelshMarches . The camassias vying with the bluebells and looking magnificent.
#OnThisDay 25th April 1287 was born Roger Mortimer, later to be the notorious 1st Earl of March. Wigmore Castle, the Mortimer stronghold in the Marches in its heyday after much rebuilding by the Earl. Ludlow Castle came to them from his marriage to the heiress Joan de Geneville.

#OnThisDay 23rd April 1349 at Windsor King Edward III held the great inaugural tournament to celebrate the formation of the Order of the Garter; 26 knights who would joust and pray together once a year and conduct themselves with chivalrous courage as the knights of King Arthur.
#OnThisDay 23rd April 1564 was born William #Shakespeare . Here the Shakespeare funerary monument in Holy Trinity Church at Stratford-upon-Avon in Warwickshire, the church in which Shakespeare was baptised and where he was buried in the chancel two days after his death

Celebrating #StGeorgesDay with this fine tympanum of St. George killing the dragon in St George's Church at Brinsop, Herefordshire. One of great works of the 12th century Herefordshire School of sculptors it has been brought inside to preserve it from the weather.

Good morning from the #WelshMarches . Damp and grey here. Yesterday the bees were busy in the garden so here are 2 splendid bee skeps (with very large bees) from the Tacuinum Sanitatis, the marvellous 11th century treatise on horticulture and health.
