Congratulations to Dr Kasim Waraich on a successful thesis defence. It was never in doubt. Thanks also to Ed Morris and Yorgo Modis for taking the time to read and examine Kasim's thesis.

Very happy to announce that our paper describing mutational signature dynamics in SARS-CoV-2 is out PLOS Comp Biol! Using the huge number of available sequences, we uncover a shifting landscape of mutational signatures operating throughout the pandemic! journals.plos.org/ploscompbiol/a…

Grateful to have had the opportunity to present (for the first time) my ongoing PhD research investigating the extraordinary ways in which IAVs can spread between cells. Thank you to the Microbiology Society for providing me with a slot in such a special session! #microbio24

Delighted to have made it to Puerto Rico for #SocialViruses. I can't believe my insane flight connections paid off - including maybe the first time ever that an easyJet flight landed early 🫣✈️

Our new preprint showing how protein language models (PLMs) can help us understand viral proteins is now available! We used ESM-2 to investigate what PLMs know about the SARS-CoV-2 spike protein from a single sequence to evolutionary trajectories. biorxiv.org/content/10.110…
