We also have fantastic sessions on Anosov representations, Group actions on hyperbolic spaces, Knots and links in dimensions 3 and 4, Number theory in low-dimensional topology, Teaching undergraduate topology, and Teichmuller space and geodesic currents! ncngt.org/2022-topic-gro…

I loved learning from @RanthonyEdmonds, Arunima Ray, Rebecca Black, Anthony Bosman, and Christian Millichap today. I have so much to think about for the future. Surprising to me/ maybe my favorite part--how much I took away for non-topology courses! ncngt.org/2022-topic-gro…

NCNGT 2022 participant interests as word cloud--most of the big words aren't too surprising, but some of the small ones make me smile!

I have a linear algebra student who is interested in doing a mini-project on "something related to matrices and binary." Ideas for references? Ideally it would be an intro to linear algebra over a field of order two, with applications, but any recs would be v welcome!

Two questions: 1. Do you have a favorite book for a first course in undergrad algebra, and if so what is it and why? 2. To you, are group actions or group homomorphisms more fundamental things to think about?

I have a memory of a great "what is a proof" class activity/ exploration posted within the last year (I know, very helpful.) Does this ring a bell for anyone?

I appreciate Ed Yong's writing on COVID so much, especially his insistence on paying attention to peoples' experiences as the "ground truth against which all other data must be understood." theatlantic.com/health/archive…

Gradescope, I love you dearly (particularly the ability to never again worry about losing students' homework), but is allowing EVERY EMOJI to be given as student feedback really a wise choice?
