Fraser’s Panoramic Plan of #London 1831 ⁦YaleBritishArt⁩ What can you or cannot see if you zoom in? For example you can see Old London Bridge next to John Rennie’s new bridge but you cannot see Tower Bridge (Opened 1894) Share your observations, I’ll retweet them!

A Plan of #London Streets and Roads South of Lambeth, Westminster Bridge, Blackfriars Bridge and London Bridge. On the right it’s Interesting to see just how built up the area of the Borough SE1 ( Southwark) was in 1768. (Unknown Artist ⁦YaleBritishArt⁩ )

Where the Barbican now stands, but back in the summer of 1942, the land was home to allotments cultivated by the firefighters of Redcross Street Fire Station, City of London. With @stpaulslondon in the background #GardenDayUK #GardenDay #garden

Royal Avenue, Chelsea. 1910. Royal Avenue & Burton's Court were designed in the 1690s by William III as part of a proposed carriage way linking the Hospital with Kensington Palace. It was enclosed by a hedge & small white fence; once known as White Stile Walk.

Does anyone know precise use of this? On first floor of an old barn, by a now blocked-up door to outside. It has a pulley and swivel arrangement.

Just researched the Griffin, an old coaching inn in Amersham. Fascinating history including a hidden recess in chimney for Jacobites, an 18thC innkeeper with criminal tendencies and another who was very probably a murderer. Now about to reopen with great Italian food.

A lovely first review in TLS from AN Wilson 'briskly written and compulsively readable...Does Andrew Lownie persuade me both that it is worth telling the story again, and that he has made out the case for his unforgiving title? The answer is an unambiguous yes.

The Duke of Windsor visiting North End Road in 1953. The Duke was previously King Edward VIII but abdicated in 1936 when he was not allowed to marry divorcee Wallis Simpson. His 326 day reign is the shortest of any British Monarch

Does anyone recognise this coat of arms? Set into a garden wall. House in Belgravia built c.1837, developer Samuel Archbutt, freeholder Duke of Westminster. Might not be original to the house.

Lennox Gardens in Knightsbridge started life as ‘Quail Field’, a market garden - then a cricket ground. 54 houses were constructed in Lennox Gardens on the site, completed in 1886. The large redbrick houses are in a style Osbert Lancaster coined as ‘Pont Street Dutch’.
