What a tough, tough year for writers. Cautiously optimistic that 2025 will be better 🤞🏻

“Hope you’re surviving the fires, have you had a chance to check out my script?” - an actual email that someone sent today.

The entertainment industry is closed until at least the fires are out but probably even a few weeks after that. Don’t call. Don’t email. Just don’t.

It seems pretty clear the brave firefighters and emergency personnel saved Encino, where I live, from disaster last night. The shock of what is happening has not fully set in for many people here, but let us take a moment to appreciate everyone fighting for all of Los Angeles.

This is the perfect example of why AI sucks. It’s literally the same scene except devoid of all life. It’s the uncanny valley all over again.

Spec scripts are never dead. They never will be dead. The thing that's so beautiful about a spec, is ANYONE around the world can write an original screenplay. No matter who you are. Whether you're working 5 jobs. Or going to the library at night to write it on a computer there.
