For the last #MLS of 2020, Akshay Koottandavida is presenting his work on "Experimental Implementation of Pair-Cat Code with Superconducting Microwave Circuits" with the warmest background while we wait for the first snow storm of winter

GKP codes are well known to be excellent against loss, but they are poor against dephasing. Below are results for optimal recovery of a square GKP codes against loss vs loss+dephasing. The x-axis shows the average photon number, i.e. the "size", of the GKP code.

Sunshine is on the move to his new house! After pushing the boundaries of knowledge with researchers, their new mission will be to teach the public about quantum computing through YQI outreach programs.

As a former rocket scientist, I approve this message! "Understanding this stuff really is possible — after all, it isn’t rocket science; it’s just quantum computing!" quantamagazine.org/why-is-quantum…

Check out our new preprint on arxiv! With Volodymyr Sivak Andy Ding Baptiste Royer and others at @QlabYale YaleQuantumInstitute we show universal control of an oscillator coupled to a qubit can occur much faster than is usually assumed by using large oscillator displacements arxiv.org/abs/2111.06414
