Both the right and the left are mis-framing the inequality debate as “snatching” Mangal Sutra, or imposing inheritance taxes. Nobody is asking what redistribution will do. More PLIs or better education, health? We can’t even imagine a state that has the capacity to do any good.

Sorry that many of my markers are now old Bollywood. But what is the character of Anupam Kher to do if he gets a notice from the police that Mohini is dancing too provocatively for law and order? There’s no other Madhuri Dixit to support his character in Tezaab. What will he say?
