Without irony Thames Water tells me it's returning water 'safely' to the environment. The bill has four elements: Fresh Water - rate + 7.7% on previous six months; fixed charge + 23.9%; Wastewater + 15.17%; fixed wastewater charge +13.2%.

You don't have to be a Cambridge United FC fan/addict like me to appreciate the beauty and emotion of the account by David Walsh of a late away goal for a struggling third-tier football team. It's about so, so much more.

What a bizarre article Public sector pensions disappear on death and cannot be bequests to kids, so the effective tax rate (if you insist on doing like this)… …is 100%

ICYM: After months of walking & cycling commissioner speculation, and 100 days after the West Mids declared a road safety emergency, a job posting briefly appeared for road safety commissioner, with a sub-£5,000 salary under a “voluntary” contract Road.cc/311085

I would have probably mentioned that Dyson owns 36,000 acres of farmland in England which was previously liable for zero inheritance tax

Another driver choosing to overtake into oncoming traffic. It's more and more common. Simple solution: look further down the road than the vehicle in front.

I’m gutted to hear of the death of #Howard Hughes. We worked together at Capital - what a broadcaster! He lived and breathed radio. Do listen to this radio conversation with 📻 David Lloyd podcasts.apple.com/gb/podcast/rad…

Seeing claims again that bike schemes slowed London buses. The figures show no such relationship. Camden and City, w/ many tracks and LTNs, saw 2nd and 3rd lowest falls in bus speeds 2013-24. The worst boros include Wandsworth and Ealing, which did no schemes or pulled them out.

Nothing more patriotic than moving to Dubai just so you don’t have to pay a bit more tax to fund the nation’s collective defence and public services telegraph.co.uk/news/2025/01/2…

This isn't true. We've checked. The very definition of fake news - and the reason why giving a blue tick to anyone who'll pay for it is a horrible idea. Also, any outlet that talks about "breaking rumours" should be viewed with inherent suspicion.
