New 5.5 miles dual carriageway west of Norwich, past my village, will take 3 yrs to build, cause huge disruption and distress and cost £200M. That is £22600/m and £183000/day. Is this value for 💰 or is the world going mad?

1st reason to only drill wheat on black-grass land in a month with an "O" in it. 15% less black-grass for each weeks drilling delay until mid Oct. That's 70% less for a months delay. Want to see the evidence, try our free 90 day membership trial at niab.com

2nd reason for "O"ctober wheat drilling on black-grass land. Efficacy. Over the last 14 years, residual herbicides have, on average, worked 55% better in October vs Sept. Want to see why, check out the free 90 day membership at niab.com

3rd+4th reason to hold drilling black-grass land until Oct. Cost and risk. Typically, Sept drilling will need 50-80% more herbicide but the risk of still getting poor control is much higher. For more agronomy, check out the free 90 day membership trial at niab.com

Despite the news, petrol and diesel prices in the UK are not cheap and are still 40p/l too much due to corporate greed and price fixing throughout the supply chain as well as excessive taxation. Think what a boost £1/litre would have on the wider UK economy. Just saying.

The Niab membership winter conference season until the end Jan has started with events this week at Cirencester and Salisbury. We hope members find them useful and informative and, as always, your comments are most welcome. On to Berwick, Croft and Lincolnshire next week.

Absolutely. Prime example where all the parties should get round the table and thrash out a solution for both the environment and practicality.

This review could create a new and novel definition for "autumn " when almost all manure spreading may be banned of "harvest of the previous crop to the End Feb". Sound practical?

Not unexpected due to the overreliance and overuse of glyphosate, particularly at suboptimal rates. Multiple glyphosates between crops, more common in no-til systems and before spring crops, is not sustainable. Some cultivation, not necessarily ploughing, is a sensible option.
