It's so exciting to see our work at @MatriculateOrg come to fruition. Over the past 9 months, we've hosted 9 webinars for our undergraduate Fellows and HS Fellows, facilitating learning from the college admissions side that benefits high-achieving, low-income students. #FGLI

American colleges and universities sell students on an expensive vision of success - but does spending all those dollars really make sense? Listen and subscribe to a new season of the #CollegeUncovered podcast from GBH News + The Hechinger Report. ➡️gbhnews.org/collegeuncover… GBH PRX

As a young admissions officer in 2009 who got paid $30,500 ($44k today) with a master’s — and worked a LOT of overtime — I support this. I didn’t reach $58k until year 8 in admissions. No wonder why people leave the profession or jump over to independent school counseling.

Since I’ve been in the college admissions space for 15+ years now, I’ve been to many, many conferences and sessions. It’s so refreshing to walk away really inspired by the local work of others (specifically, the Rural Student Success Initiative across rural Texas). #CollegeAccess

Since Jan 2022 when I sent this tweet, I’ve kept in touch with her. I told her that her kid should apply to fly-ins (they hadn’t heard of them) - was later accepted to SwarthmoreAdmissions fly-in, and just found out about their admission to Penn — full circle moment!

If you're an admissions officer that follows me (hi, ilysm) and you've always wondered how to connect with the *delightful* young people we serve, our fall visits are open! We do panel discussions (inspired by Erin Alexa) on Tuesday nights. Send me a DM for the link to book!

Because I work with colleges each day, I won’t name names. But if you’re a college hosting in-person events and you ONLY choose wealthy schools as hosts, our FGLI students take notice. Please work with other types of schools.

When I was a 1st yr admissions rep, I asked the students in my info session to introduce themselves. As I turned to the next person who didn’t look like a high schooler, I asked, “Mom?” Mortified, she goes, “I’m 19,” as her cousins giggled. I wonder if she still thinks of me.

Look at what I’ve been up to for the past few years! Our first of many to come (keep an eye out for more) — thank you to Bucknell University and their terrific team for this substantive step in breaking down barriers for first generation and low-income students. #CollegeAccess
