One of the most successful pedestrian streets in the world, the Strøget in Copenhagen, was filled with cars until a 2 year 1962 pilot project. The opposition argued “no cars means no business,” but the street has been a massive retail success, the city’s busiest shopping street.

“Someone with a 1-hr car commute needs to earn 40% more to be as happy as someone with a short walk to work. On the other hand, if someone shifts from a long commute to a walk, their happiness increases as much as if they’d fallen in love.” #CityMakingMath fastcompany.com/3062989/50-rea…

If walking costs you $1, we all pay $0.01. If biking costs you $1, we all pay $0.08. If bussing costs you $1, we all pay $1.50. If driving costs you $1, we all pay $9.20. Via The Discourse study. This isn’t just about choice. It’s about who pays for your choice. #citymakingmath

Here’s a humble request for those of you out there with many followers who don’t usually hear this kind of message — please share this really important truth with your audience. Cities that work for walking, biking & public transit work better for EVERYONE, INCLUDING DRIVERS.

Never forget, multimodal streets (aka “complete streets”) are simply more efficient, because they move, hold & serve more people within the same space. Whether you think streets are just for moving people, or are for a LOT more, they’re just better. HT NACTO #citymakingmath

Expanding roads doesn't fix traffic. "Induced demand" shows us that drivers who avoided the road by taking alternative transportation methods (or not commuting at all) due to congestion start using it again, and traffic returns within a few years. strongtowns.org/highways

Why is Edmonton investing $100M to improve cycling in the next four years? "We have an aspiration where people are invited to cycle in all seasons and for all reasons. The goal is not to tell them how to get around, but to make sure the option is there." youtu.be/KBvBw8kk7bw

I’m pretty sure all Winter Olympic sports are played on snow or ice. So basketball makes more sense in the Summer Olympics.

Guys, the reason they changed to Edmonton Elks is so people would stop saying that former name! Why? Because, while not unanimous, many deem it harmful to Indigenous people. So please stop saying it, stop abbreviating it. And returning to the name would be ridiculous. #yeg

I’m sure Larry Thompson, new owner of the Elks, understands that for as much as he wants boomers to re(?! 🤣) buy season tix…he will have people like my sisters & me, refrain from renewing our 11 season tix solely because we don’t want our kids to think casual racism is ok 🤷‍♀️

1000% YES! We can't go backwards. And let's not forget that correlation doesn't equate to causation — the team's performance was in trouble long before the rebrand. A magical Grey Cup winning team is not going to appear just because they wear a different logo. #elks #yeg
