Huge thanks to Andrew Oseran, MD MBA and Rishi Wadhera, MD MPP for stellar mentorship to present our findings at #AHA2024 on how the utilization and spending on lipid lowering therapies have evolved for #Medicaid beneficiaries ahajournals.org/doi/abs/10.116…

In Annals of Int Med, we find that patients in Medicare Advantage have a similar burden of many chronic medical conditions as those in Traditional Medicare Yet these private insurance operated Advantage plans cost $83 billion more. Could over coding of diagnoses be causing this?

Medicare Advantage plans have been criticized for risk coding practices, which result in billions of $ in excess payments by the government Our Annals of Int Med study finds that the burden of chronic medical conditions is largely similar among adults in MA vs traditional Medicare,

Novel linkage of NHANES+Medicare data shows similar chronic condition burden btwn adults in Medicare Advantage & FFS. Suggests excess payments to MA may be driven by coding practices rather than differences in health. Andrew Oseran, MD MBA Rahul Aggarwal et al acpjournals.org/doi/10.7326/AN…
