This paper used GPT-4 to sway people about conspiracy beliefs. I think it’s a misleading description of how they used AI because it’s really about persuading people towards group think. The “conspiracies” they list range from crazy beliefs about alien technology to controversies

Counterpoint: AI could lower the overall cost of healthcare so much that could afford more doctors seeing fewer patients. Why not have the best of both worlds?

Science didn't stop when the telescope and microscope was invented. The same goes for tools like OpenAI's o1. Now is when things really get started.

I tend to measure model training energy in Coachella units and inference in minutes of watching Real Housewives reruns. I don't think all the foundational model compute energy has even approached the total energy used for the Eras tour...

2 years ago at an internal OpenAI hackathon I showed how GPT-3.5 could draw graphs (using Mermaid.js). Now I can just click a button in Notion and have it read my previous documents and create one on the fly. It’s incredible how fast things can move.

There’s an image background removal company whose cheapest tier is 300x what it costs on Replicate. One image = $1.99. You can do 5,000 on Replicate for that. Companies are spending thousands of dollars each month and have no idea this is a commodity.
