“The trouble with fighting for human freedom is that one spends most of one's time defending scoundrels. For it is against scoundrels that oppressive laws are first aimed, and oppression must be stopped at the beginning if it is to be stopped at all.” ― H.L. Mencken

Don't fall for this false choice: You can absolutely care about due process violations for those who have had withholding of removal granted to them yet are rotting in CECOT *and* the victims of brutal violent criminals. Caring about justice means caring about both.

Why do people keep saying stupid things like this? Mr. Abrego Garcia HAS a house, where he lived with his US citizen wife and their three children. He was by all reports a great neighbor and a great dad. I'd be happy to invite him and his family over for dinner.

XINIS: Every day Abrego Garcia is in CECOT is "a day of further irreparable harm." "If not this court, then who, to engage in process. It’s process that is in the roots of our constitution, so we have to give process to both sides. But we’re going to move. There will be no

"and that's where the President plans on keeping him." Our government should stop claiming they deported this man when in fact they renditioned him straight into CECOT without even convicting him of a crime.

Exactly. There is a quantum difference between normal deportations (they're not hard -- 352,000 people were deported per year over the last four fiscal years) and imposing indefinite detention with no conviction in a prison that would violate the 8th Amendment in America.

This is STUNNING. One of the plaintiffs in the Alien Enemies Act case who did get taken off of a plane had a court hearing just 48 hours later — and ICE didn't even offer ONCE PIECE OF EVIDENCE that he was part of Tren de Aragua. They had literally nothing to show it.

.Roger Parloff on the "evidence" that Abrego Garcia is a gang member: "It's double hearsay stemming from a document written by somebody indicted for misconduct."

We were just denied entry into CECOT — the notorious prison in El Salvador where Mr. Abrego Garcia is being illegally held. We were there for one simple reason: to check on his well-being, which his family and lawyers have not been allowed to do. We won’t stop fighting.

Not a single person sent to El Salvador on March 15 has been allowed even a phone call since being sent there. No proof of life has been provided; not even a picture. We treat serial killers who've been convicted of crimes better than that. El Salvador must permit oversight.

An @immdef atty appeared in new AEA case today & DHS confirmed client is in El Salvador. Imm Judge interrupted argument to proceed on merits & said "Is your client here? I didn’t waive his appearance & he has failed to appear. I am issuing en absentia removal order.” Insane.

The American public understands the difference between being deported and being sent to a foreign prison. Right now, a mass murderer in a maximum security American prison has more rights than the people being sent to CECOT for a lifetime sentence.

Interesting read. If we botched the claims concerning Abrego Garcia and MS-13, that has implications for other people sent to CECOT.
