Today marks the anniversary of the worst thing to happen to golf courses in America. As a result of this law, the armchair arborists went about ruining courses in the name of beauty, without regard to agronomics or strategy. We are still undoing their haphazard plantings today.

Another year Mr. Emmet is gone. This past year, we visited his grave site (St. James Episcopal Church.) It also happens to be the gravesite of his Brother-in-Law: Stanford White.

An absolutely brilliant take by Mike Clayton as always. To me the best quote of the piece is from Donald Ross. I do hate trees on courses but for the reasons outlined here and in the linked article. (As well as the agronomic reasons as highlighted by USGA Green Section often.)

Here we have it folks. Men's Fashion expert (derek guy) here when showing how to wear shorts on the course, does not offer shorts as an option. Yes, he typed "golfing" but let's let that go as he clearly suggests pants for all here. I am taking this as a victory.

Anyone worried about F&B over the golf experience should review these results. No one would turn away great service but no one pays initiation and dues annually for it. They do it for the golf!

As a shower enthusiast, I would love to celebrate progress on more water pressure but this is merely keeping the 1992 restrictions that the Seinfeld episode correctly complained about: 2.5GPM. Que Sammy Hagar: I can't shower with that little power!

What golfers expect GCSAA professionals to have done when they are playing in the afternoon on "slow greens" but it rained in the morning.

This is why I obsess over history, Golf Digest literally ran this experiment for at least two years (2009 & 2010,) but because it happened before Mr. Thomas was paying attention, it's as if it never happened. History is important because there are no new ideas.

When I emphatically state that there ought not be parity with everyone's opinion this is why. The history of the trees at Oakmont has been discussed quite a lot this week and yet... Education on a topic, formal or otherwise, ought to matter.

The centreline bunkers on the 4th, secretly dug overnight by Stuart Paton and supported by John Low, are inspired by the Principal’s Nose at St Andrews. This bold move created strategy on the hole and unknowingly ushered in a new era of strategic course design.
