Coaches, always be open to teaching and mentoring young officials. I see more and more young guys who are looking for guidance from coaches. If a learning opportunity presents itself, show them the way. We can show them compassion and grow the game at the same time.

You can only do so much coaching during a game. That is what practice is for. Let the training and preparation take over in game. Sometimes it’s best to focus on the details of the game itself instead of a players mechanics. That is where true growth happens.

If you truly want to change the culture of a program, you must outwork every other member. You have to be willing to do any and every job. Hard work is obvious to outsiders and also contagious. It starts from the top.

Create a practice environment that is fun and challenging. Players should be excited about practice each day and understand the purpose of everything you do. You will see a consistent effort which will lead to growth in your players.

Always make time to work with your catchers at practice. Designate a coach or work with them before or after practice. They need their daily work and a routine as well.
