"Part of the challenge in thinking about alternatives to the Islamic Republic in case it collapses is that there is no organised, democratic alternative," said Thomas Juneau, professor at the University of Ottawa. france24.com/en/live-news/2…

I have obtained new nonpublic data from ICE that shows that 2/3 of the people it had booked into detention facilities this fiscal year had no criminal convictions at all. Less than 7% have violent convictions. Most convictions were for immigration, traffic, and vice offenses.

"So what can Iran do? It has several options, but none of which would allow it to reverse its rapidly mounting losses" Every option for Iran - cyber attacks, retaliation against US assets, trying to block the Strait of Hormuz, etc. - would come with a negative cost-benefit ratio

By supporting Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine Iran helped create the Hobbesian nightmare that is international relations in 2025 - where only might makes right and international law means nothing. It's a bit late to whine about "international law" and "sovereignty" now.

When you only have two data points, it's pretty safe to say it's lower than the previous data point. When you have 35 data points you can be a bit more precise (it's the lowest since 1997). πŸ˜‰ #FocusCanada

Absolute chaos. We are dumping people in random countries all over the world where they have no ties, status, or even know the language and where they will be persecuted. We don’t even get to know the basis for this SCOTUS decision.

The anti-Israel mob has essentially done piecemeal, over MANY months, what the Ottawa Convoy did all at once. Your protest-tolerance tokens have expired. Piss off.

Now that there is a fragile ceasefire, expect the Islamic Republic to crack down hard, preemptively on the Iranian population. It knows it is vulnerable; there will be no space for dissent (there will also be a brutal internal witch hunt against Israeli intelligence penetration)

New data show that ICE is pulling record numbers of people off the streets who have no criminal convictions of any kind. This is not just a change from the Biden admin. This is a radical tactical shift compared to Trump 1.0. These types of arrests are up over 1,000% from 2017.
