General recommendation for improving HRV: Aim to improve fitness and cardiovascular/metabolic health, then watch HRV improve. Aim to increase HRV and folks end up doing weird things and focus on hyper-acute effects (“biohacking”, hypo-ventilating, humming, etc.).

My lowest post-wake standing HRV is consistently on Sun and Mon, despite high activity levels. This is most likely explained by dietary factors. Overall higher energy intake and massive dinners. I could improve my week avg HRV simply by diet modifications on the weekend.

The short-term consequences of overeating in the evening are not just metabolic. I do this less frequently these days, but was the norm for ~15 years of my life when trying to optimize size/strength.

My nocturnal RMSSD is typically 70 ms with little deviation, so 94 ms is unusually high. I had >500 ml of cold water within 30 min of going to bed (atypical), which may explain it.

Feeling a cold coming on. Had to back it off in the gym, reluctantly. Reflected well in standing HRV this morning. Not so much from sleep values.

Consistent with all previous cases, my sleep parameters show full recovery after illness before my standing values. I’m not expressing confusion, I’m highlighting greater sensitivity of standing HRV.
