Why does RNA polymerase III need Bdp1 for initiation? Thx to a a cool nanotechnological tool & a great interdicplinary collaboration with Tinnefeld Lab, VanniniLab_HT, Engel Lab, Tim Liedl and the Berger lab, we could address this question. tinyurl.com/y9ee6nvv

Just as lab scientists aren't allowed to handle dangerous substances without safety training, researchers shouldn't be allowed near a P value or similar statistical probability measures until they demonstrate they understand its meaning, writes Dorothy Bishop. go.nature.com/2CdvG20

Dear RNA peeps: does anyone know what happened to the #mfold server? Is it coming back or discontinued for good? I very much hope it's coming back because it was such a helpful tool for RNA secondary structure prediction.

Just when you thought you knew everything about Cas9... Pleased to share our lab’s first paper, now online Cell: cell.com/cell/fulltext/…. We found Cas9 transcriptionally regulates its own promoter using a natural single-guide RNA. Kudos Rachael Workman, Teja Pammi et al.

How about a once in a lifetime competition, science fans? This periodic table is signed by every group to discover an element since WW2. Want it? All you have to do is post a picture of yourself dressed as your favourite element. Best pic (as judged by me) by 2 May wins!

This project was born on a train ride. Fast forward 2 years, we join the CRISPR-Cas club: our single-molecule biochemistry analysis of Cas12a. Massive congratulations to Elisabeth Wörle, Andi Schmidbauer and Leo Jakob for their excellent work!! academic.oup.com/nar/advance-ar…

Who would have thought, but there is still something new to learn about SpyCas9: read this pre-print if you ever wondered why Cas9 stays so tightly bound to its target after cleavage. Great single-molecule work by the Seidel lab. Happy to have contributed. biorxiv.org/content/10.110…

"the post-cleavage state of Cas9 exhibits a higher stability compared to the pre-cleavage state. This suggests that Cas9 has evolved to remain tightly bound to its cut target." biorxiv.org/content/10.110…

Happy to see this one published: great single-molecule work by the Seidel lab interrogating the post-cleavage stability of SpyCas9 using magnetic tweezers. Glad we could contribute to this study and congrats to Andi and Leo in my team 🥳! academic.oup.com/nar/advance-ar…

Members of the Grohmann lab are on tour this week to show large parts of our #smFRET projects. Meet Kevin Kramm and Andi Schmidbauer at their posters or visit Andis talk on Thursday afternoon at the FRET satellite meeting at #MAF2022. (1/4)

Andi shows you how to site-specifically label native human RNA Pol I using our SLAM-FRET method (no recombinant expression or reconstitution of this multisubunit RNA Pol is possible so he tamed the real native human beast). Andi Schmidbauer

If you missed my poster presentation at #MAF2022 yesterday, i am happy if you join my talk at the #FRETmeeeting tomorrow! I'll explain in detail how we equip a hughe native human protein complex with an organic dye for smFRET making use of the latest biological tools!
