On this day in 1773 Louis-Michel Letort de Lorville was born. Lorville went on to become a Général de Brigade in the French army. He served with distinction throughout the Napoleonic Wars, but is perhaps best remembered for his command of the dragoons of the Imperial Guard.

The storming of San Sebastian took place #OnThisDay 31 August 1813. Thomas Graham's forces of British & Portuguese troops ran from trenches & into the breach. It led to the Peninsular War reaching the Pyrenees & France. The city was sacked despite officer's attempts to stop it.
