It’s been 9 years since we all sang Happy Birthday to Niall Horan at Gillette Stadium for his 22nd birthday at the final OTRA show. I’m emotional

people throw the word legend around a lot these days but he embodied legendary status like very few in the modern theatre community i was lucky enough to see him twice in action, i absolutely idolised him - an immeasurable loss rest in peace gavin creel 💫

My introduction to Gavin Creel was when I was a kid and watched Eloise at Christmastime. It’s still one of my favorites to this day. This scene of him singing Together, Wherever We Go from Gypsy always lives in my heart as one of my earliest theatre influences. Love him so much.

I would be lying if I told you I didn’t spend most of today just absolutely sobbing over Gavin’s passing. A person I did not know. His voice, his artistry, his spirit could be felt every time you saw him perform.

not dimming all 41 theatres for a man who was very universally loved in the community is crazy. there wasn’t a “selection” of people who loved him, so why should only a “selection” of theatres be dimmed?

A partial dimming of theatres to honor Gavin Creel is absolutely not enough. Gavin impacted the lives of everyone in the theatre community and he and his career should be honored and celebrated as such. The Broadway League, do the right thing. Dim them all.

The “we only dim ALL the lights for icons” argument doesn’t consider that some people don’t get the luxury of living as long as James Earl Jones & Chita Rivera. People like Gavin, Adrian, Marin, Rebecca, Jan all had prolific theater careers in their short times.

We fully support the movement to dim ALL the Broadway marquee lights for Gavin Creel and Adrian Bailey. They spent their lives trodding the boards, working almost exclusively in the theater. They both deserve this honor in full, in tribute to their legacies.

I can’t stop thinking about Gavin Creel and the joy that constantly radiated out of him both on stage and off. How perfect that his final miscast performance was a Mamma Mia medley that had the entire room on their feet and grinning ear to ear. What an unfathomable loss.
