We continue to bemoan 1/3 students graded below 4 in Eng Lang when a. grade boundaries are set for that approx proportion b. Eng Lang GCSE is a poor exam that doesn't test competence in use of lang in a meaningful way c. marking is erratic, so the results aren't even reliable.

If you care about and want to know about the Caribbean, then UWI can give you things you couldn't get anywhere else in the world. In my subject, Linguistics, there's so much insight, passion and connection to Caribbean languages and language issues. Second to none imho.

Really interested in any ideas for enrichment for A Level English students. Feel a huge responsibility to cultivate new year 12s as wider readers and scholars (hate that word but still).

If you tried it, you'd learn more about attention than is measured by researchers who don't question their own culturally-adopted assumptions.

Donโ€™t believe anything you hear about wait times for SEN referrals for adults. Having jumped through the questionnaire hoops I waited 18 months for what turned out to be another screening appointment before another 18 month wait. This will be described as an 18 month wait 1/3

The โ€˜sentenceโ€™ is a written construct, not a spoken one. Making students talk โ€˜in full sentencesโ€™ can be stilted & impede thought. Hedges, filllers, backtracking etc all support thought. Better surely to say โ€˜tell me more!โ€™ or โ€˜develop that idea a bitโ€™. You could have students 1

"The sentence is a written construct not a spoken one" should be the first slide in every oracy CPD and preferably taped to the wall in every classroom.

So it's my birthday today ๐Ÿ˜ญ, I'm 29. I've asked anyone who wanted to get me something to donate to this instead. It's an archiving project documenting British Caribbean history in NW London with audio recordings. justgiving.com/crowdfunding/mโ€ฆ

Anyway, Lewisham Council, as someone who has lived in the borough my whole life and gone to the fireworks since I was a child. Monetizing is one thing, but actively excluding disabled people is really disappointing and alarming.
