I’m grateful to the African Diplomatic Corps for last week’s vital retreat to assess urban agenda progress in Africa ahead of the resumed session of #UNHA. As housing agendas gain momentum, we must also confront land issues that hinder development. Our new Strategic Plan is key.

I gave a speech at the UN HQ in Nairobi. My thesis is that Global South will determinate the direction of the world order. In a world in turmoil, it has an opportunity to leverage its influence. The UN lays the foundations of an order governed by rules, instead of might. But

Land isn’t just about ownership. It’s the foundation for climate action, housing security, and urban equity. No land rights = no services, no stability, no future. If we want just, resilient cities, we start with land.

Thank you, H.E. Alexander Stubb, & First Lady Ms. Suzanne Innes-Stubb, for your visit. It was a pleasure to share our new Strategic Plan & highlight how its priorities resonate with Finland's experiences on sustainable & inclusive housing, as we discussed other aspects.

We are gearing up for the United Nations Habitat Assembly and the OECPR. This morning, our internal Task Force gathered to take stock, and I am encouraged by the solid progress across the board as we approach these pivotal moments for global urban action.

It is essential that the upcoming resumed session of the #UNHA provides clear policy guidance for sustainable urbanization. With #Agenda2030 approaching, the adoption of our Strategic Plan is more critical than ever. Grateful to Member States for joining today’s briefing.
