Did I say I couldn't succeed without government help? Did I say I was unemployed? I merely stated what was told to the audience of a talk by a rep for a tech company. Please don't place your storyline on me.

What makes you think I didn't have a job? I just commented on what I was told in the 70s by a rep for a company giving a presentation at the college I went to, not on my employment. I am glad to hear your mom and grandmother were both had jobs.

I was bedridden as a child with rheumatic fever. I could hear my parents' words of worry as they spoke in hushed tones. But to me, they instilled a sense of purpose and hope. A particular inspiration came from a poem that steeled me then, and many moments since: "Invictus."

My 5 yr old boy came home and asked me why bigger kid kept calling him Chinese Boy. My son, confused, told the boy I’m a New Jersey Boy. He laughed it off but my eyes welled up. 50 yrs ago my parents immigrated here but we cannot shake shadow of foreignness. #StopAsianHate THREAD
