"We can either act on that knowledge and make decisions based on empirical science, or we can ignore it — but if we do the latter, it’s at our peril." Amy Mainzer, science adviser on #DontLookUp #ScienceAdvice

Had a great chat with Michael Schulman of The New Yorker about why we don't need asteroid insurance but why we still need to look up. newyorker.com/magazine/2021/…

This is berserk. Kodiak, Alaska hit 65 degrees today, 20 DEGREES warmer than their previous record. Not their average. Their record. That's like winning a 5K by ten minutes. Numerous nearby stations recorded similar. Warmest winter temperature on record. @FOX5DC MyRadar Weather

Appreciated the chance to speak with Corbin Hiar of E&E News and David Sirota about the need for science-based governance and making stories about climate change. And the importance of snacks. eenews.net/articles/meet-…

Best part of my job at UArizona Lunar and Planetary Laboratory is when our students graduate. David Cantillo graduated as outstanding senior from W.A. Franke Honors College and Grace is headed to CU Boulder for her grad school.

Congratulations to graduating W.A. Franke Honors College senior Akash Satpathy, who will be staying at University of Arizona for graduate school in planetary science! Working with awesome students and meeting their families gives me hope for the future.

Practice makes perfect: we used the NEOWISE mission to measure the physical properties of the asteroid Apophis as part of an international planetary defense exercise led by Vishnu Reddy. NEOWISE paper led by University of Arizona senior Akash Satpathy. nasa.gov/feature/jpl/pl…
