Five years ago, Zhang Zhan was arrested for courageously reporting on Covid-19. She served four years in prison on the charge of “picking quarrels and provoking trouble.” Now she's been detained again, for social media that “seriously harmed [China’s] national image”.

Today, Amnesty International co-sponsored a UN Human Rights Council side event on arbitrary detentions and enforced disappearances in China. Today marks six years since Gulshan Abbas was disappeared. We will not stop watching what happens to these Uyghur individuals: Amnesty will continue working on Uyghur human rights, and the eyes of the world are on the Uyghur region.

Chinese #MeToo activist and journalist Sophia Huang Xueqin was sentenced to 5 years’ imprisonment for “inciting subversion of state power.” 19 September marks the 4th anniversary of her arrest — and also begins the one-year countdown to her release. amnesty.org/en/latest/news…
